Price increases have been recorded across a range of everyday goods in Cyprus, with infant formula among the products drawing particular concern from consumers.
According to the Cyprus Consumers Association, noticeable rises began on Thursday and intensified by Friday. The organisation’s president, Marios Drousiotis, said their monitoring system, which tracks prices in 48 supermarkets listed on the e-kalathi platform, detected clear increases in essential items over the past two days.
Parents of young children are especially worried about the cost of infant milk. Many reported that this is the second recent price rise for the product. The latest increase amounts to about one euro per package, bringing the price to €10.95. Given how frequently families need to purchase infant formula, even small changes add pressure to household budgets.
Drousiotis confirmed that infant milk is included in the current wave of price hikes. He also addressed concerns about oversight, explaining that retailers are free to set their own prices. However, he pointed out that monitoring and investigating such increases falls under the responsibility of the Consumer Protection Service within the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry, which is expected to carry out the necessary checks.
