Could it be true?! A little relief in sight??

Weather with a wink, July 15 edition

Newsroom

Cyprus, we need to talk. After days of roasting like a halloumi slice left out in the sun, we may, dare we dream, be getting a teeny, tiny taste of relief. Seasonal low pressure is sashaying its way into the region, and it’s bringing a few surprises.

Today starts with some local low clouds and light fog playing hard to get, but they’ll quickly ghost us, leaving mostly clear skies. By afternoon, a few clouds will try to crash the party, especially in the mountains, because apparently they didn’t get the memo that we’re already sweating. Winds are feeling breezy, blowing southwest to northwest at 3 to 4 Beaufort, but on the south and east coasts they might flex up to a strong 5 Beaufort. The sea is slightly rough, enough to make you feel like you’re on a luxury yacht, even if you're just floating on a lilo.

So, is it sweater weather? Absolutely not. But compared to last week’s furnace, it’s basically a cold front.

Temps? Oh, you know, a casual 37°C inland, 33°C on the coasts (except the west, which is clearly on holiday with a chill 31°C), and the mountains keep it classy with 31°C as well.

Tonight, the sky clears again, but light fog, mist, and low clouds might sneak back in like they forgot their keys. Winds go easy at 3 Beaufort, and the sea keeps its gentle rock. Temperatures dip to a refreshing 24°C inland and along the coast, and 21°C in the high mountains; sleep with the window open if you dare.

Looking ahead?

Wednesday to Friday stays mostly clear (praise be), but those cheeky clouds may show up around midday with some surprise isolated showers. Thursday could even bring a bit of thunder in some parts, yes, actual weather! Mostly inland and in the mountains, so pack an umbrella just in case. Temps stay stable on Wednesday but are expected to creep up slightly on Thursday and Friday, because of course they are.

Stay cool, Cyprus, you’ve earned it.
