In a heartfelt discussion on SPOR FM's "Diaspora News," Fotini Tsiridou, a Limassol Councillor for the DISY, addressed the pressing issue of support for foster children as they transition into adulthood.

Tsiridou highlighted the importance of placing children in foster families, calling it the most appropriate option for their care. She revealed that new legislation is being crafted to make foster care more appealing and better supported by the state.

"We are working on a bill to enhance the foster care system," Tsiridou said. "Our goal is to make this institution more attractive and ensure it receives the necessary state support."

While acknowledging the recent 5% increase in child allowance, she noted that it is a small step forward that does not fully address current needs. "It's a piecemeal improvement," she remarked, "and we must do more to meet the requirements of our foster families and the children they care for."

The proposed changes aim to provide comprehensive support, ensuring foster children have the resources they need as they step into adulthood. This initiative represents a positive move towards enhancing the lives of foster children and ensuring they have a brighter future.
