A large-scale counter-terrorism exercise will take place at Limassol Port on Wednesday, July 1, between 8:00am and 12:00pm, bringing together emergency services, government agencies and private sector partners to test their response to a simulated security incident.
The exercise, named "Port Shield 2026," has been organised by Eurogate Container Terminal Limassol and will include the Cyprus Police, Ambulance Service, Fire Service, Deputy Ministry of Shipping and the Cyprus Ports Authority.
According to police, the operation is designed to evaluate existing security measures, test coordination procedures between participating organisations and improve cooperation in responding to a terrorist attack affecting a ship and port facilities.
As part of the scenario, blank ammunition will be used within the designated exercise area. Members of the public may also notice an increased presence of police officers and other emergency personnel along the Nicosia to Limassol motorway and around the port.
Authorities have stressed that all activity forms part of the planned exercise and that there is no danger to the public. Anyone in the Limassol Port area during the operation is asked to follow instructions issued by police and other officials.
