Cracked concrete and exposed reinforcement visible on overpass in Agios Athanasios (video)

Footage recorded early Thursday shows damaged sections of the pedestrian walkway above the motorway.

A pedestrian bridge above the motorway in Agios Athanasios, Limassol, has come under scrutiny after footage showed sections of damaged concrete, openings in the walking surface and exposed reinforcement beneath the bridge.

The footage was submitted to RoadReportCY by a concerned citizen and was recorded at around 1am on Thursday, October 8. It shows several points along the pedestrian walkway where the concrete appears cracked or broken, with sections of the underlying material visible.

In one particularly damaged area, part of the surface appears to have broken away, leaving openings in the walkway and exposing what appears to be metal reinforcement.

The bridge crosses one of Limassol’s main motorway routes, with traffic visible travelling underneath the structure in the footage.

The citizen who reported the condition is calling for the relevant authorities to inspect the bridge and take action before somebody is injured.

The main concern is the condition of the pedestrian surface itself. Uneven or missing sections of concrete could cause someone to trip while crossing, with the risk potentially harder to spot at night when visibility is reduced.

The footage does not establish the structural condition of the bridge as a whole, but the visible deterioration has prompted a call for the damaged sections to be assessed and repaired.
