A 44-year-old construction worker remains in serious but stable condition after being injured with a drywall cutter during an argument at a building site in Mouttagiaka on Thursday morning.
Police are investigating the incident as attempted murder and are searching for his colleague, a 47-year-old man who allegedly fled the site on foot.
Both men are Georgian nationals and worked at the same building under construction, according to Limassol CID chief Costas Michael.
Speaking to reporters, Michael said the two had a heated argument before the younger man suffered injuries to his abdomen and hand. What prompted the dispute remains unclear.
An ambulance took the injured worker to Limassol General Hospital, where he underwent surgery.
Investigators are now examining the account of an eyewitness who was at the scene and has already given a statement to police. They are working to establish exactly how the attack unfolded and what led to the confrontation.
Police have released the photograph and details of Mamuka Matitaishvili, 47, from Georgia, who is wanted for questioning in connection with the case.
Michael said efforts to locate the suspect were continuing and expressed hope that police would find him soon.
