Cyprus and Saudi Arabia are expanding their cooperation in an area that rarely makes the front pages but quietly shapes how countries work together: the training of their diplomats.
Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos and his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, signed a diplomatic training program in New York on Thursday while attending the high-level week of the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
The agreement links the Prince Saud Al Faisal Institute of Diplomatic Studies with the Diplomatic Academy of the Cyprus Foreign Ministry.
The announcement did not provide details on how the program will operate, but such cooperation can give diplomats opportunities to exchange knowledge and better understand each other’s regions, priorities, and approach to international affairs.
During their meeting, the two ministers also reviewed relations between Cyprus and Saudi Arabia and discussed regional and international developments of interest to both countries.
