Cyprus catches a chill as the 'freeze' snap arrives!

Temperatures drop, winds pick up, and Cypriots prepare for the great shiver.

Newsroom

Oh my God! It’s happening. The much-talked about cold snap has finally descended upon Cyprus, with temperatures set to plummet and sending Cypriots into full-on “I can’t feel my toes” mode. While the rest of Europe might call this “a bit chilly,” here, we’re digging out the heavy coats, layering up like it’s the North Pole, and dramatically exclaiming, “What is this, Siberia?!”

Today’s Forecast: The sky can’t quite make up its mind, switching between partly and mostly cloudy, with some isolated showers just to keep things interesting. If you’re heading to the mountains, expect some snowfall—just enough to cause a social media frenzy of tiny snowmen and excited “It’s snowing!!!” posts.

The wind will be coming in from the northwest to north at a lively 4-5 Beaufort, perfect for ruining hairstyles and ensuring that walking in a straight line becomes a challenge. Meanwhile, the sea is throwing a tantrum—expect rough waters, especially in the west, so perhaps rethink that winter swim unless you're looking for an impromptu ice bath.

Tonight: Things take a turn for the frostier, with temperatures dropping to a shocking 6°C inland, a brutal 8°C on the coast, and an absolutely glacial -3°C in the mountains. Frost will be setting up camp in the highlands, making everything look picturesque while also ensuring early-morning car windows require scraping (or at least a dramatic sigh before driving off blindly).

Friday & The Weekend: More clouds, more scattered showers, and more snowfall in the mountains and highlands. Temperatures will continue their downward spiral, dropping well below average—perfect conditions for exaggerated complaints and declarations of, “This is the coldest I’ve ever been in my life!”

Yes, it’s chilly, but let’s be real—it’s still Cyprus. Layer up, enjoy the novelty of actual cold, and remember—next week, we’ll probably be back to debating whether it’s warm enough for a beach day.
