Cyprus hits 575 pharmacies with medicine collection bins

Special bins for expired and unusable medicines now available nationwide, making it easier for residents to safely dispose of old drugs.

Newsroom

Cyprus now has 575 special collection bins for expired or unusable medicines placed across pharmacies nationwide, MediCycle announced. The bins, licensed in June 2024 by the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, provide a safe, environmentally friendly way for residents to dispose of household pharmaceuticals.

Citizens are encouraged to drop off old medicines at any participating pharmacy. Improper disposal, such as throwing pills in the trash or flushing them down the drain, can harm both people and the environment.

The collection system is fully funded by the producers of pharmaceutical products in Cyprus, fulfilling their legal obligations under R.D.P. 80/2023. Pharmacies hosting bins can be found online at medicycle.com.cy
