Lebanese man held at Larnaca Airport wanted in Germany for supplying ammunition for planned attacks on Jewish sites in Europe.

Cypriot authorities have arrested a man allegedly linked to the Palestinian group Hamas, who is wanted in Germany for supplying weapons and ammunition for attacks on Israeli or Jewish targets, German federal prosecutors said.

The suspect, a Lebanese national identified only as Kamel M. under German privacy rules, was detained on March 6 at Larnaca Airport while arriving from Lebanon. Prosecutors say he was connected to the transport of 300 live rounds of ammunition, though the bullets’ origin and final destination remain unclear.

Officials said the operation was tied to planned deadly attacks by Hamas against Jewish institutions in Germany and across Europe. German police also searched the suspect’s Berlin apartment as part of the investigation.

After his extradition to Germany, a judge will determine whether he will be held in pretrial detention. Authorities noted that attacks against Jews and Jewish sites have risen worldwide since the outbreak of Israel’s war with Hamas in Gaza, following the group’s attacks on Israel in 2023.
