Cyprus households will soon have another incentive to reduce their energy costs, with the government approving a new subsidy scheme offering up to €900 for the installation or replacement of solar hot water systems.
The Council of Ministers approved on Wednesday the “Grant Scheme for Solar Hot Water Production Systems in Residences 2026”, with a total budget of €1 million, as part of efforts to support households and accelerate the country’s shift towards cleaner energy.
Energy Minister Michalis Damianou said the scheme will encourage households to upgrade their solar water heating systems, helping reduce energy bills while making better use of Cyprus’ most abundant natural resource, the sun.
Under the scheme:
- Households in the general category will receive a €500 subsidy.
- Homes in mountainous areas will qualify for €900.
- Vulnerable households will also receive €900 in financial support.
The program will cover approved solar hot water systems that meet specific technical requirements. Installations must be carried out by authorized installers included on an official list, while the equipment itself must be pre-approved and registered as eligible.
Authorities said these requirements are intended to ensure the scheme is properly implemented and reduce the chances of applications being rejected.
Applications will remain open until December 20, 2026, or until 2,000 applications are submitted, whichever comes first.
Damianou urged households to check the scheme’s conditions and take advantage of the opportunity, particularly as many families continue to look for ways to lower their electricity bills.
