Patients at Cyprus’ public hospitals have one less thing to worry about next week. Six unions representing staff at the State Health Services Organization, known as OKYpY, suspended a planned 48-hour strike after receiving a written proposal to renew their collective agreement.
The walkout was due to take place Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 10 and 11. In a joint statement, the unions said they met Friday after receiving written confirmation that OKYpY’s board had approved the draft first presented to them on Nov. 4. They decided to suspend the strike after reviewing the terms.
The proposed agreement covers 2026 and 2027 and includes a 2.75% across-the-board pay increase. The two sides are due to meet again Tuesday, the day the strike was set to begin, to finalize the agreement and set a date to sign it.
