Cyprus is getting its moment in the stars.

Next week, Nicosia will turn into the center of the global space scene as it hosts the 6th World Space Symposium of the World Organization for Space Research (COSPAR), from November 3 to 7.

The event, organized by the Cyprus Space Exploration Organization (CSEO), brings together the world’s biggest space agencies, NASA, ESA, JAXA, ISRO, and others, along with astronauts, scientists, and representatives from companies like Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman.

CSEO President George Danos called it “the most important space conference of 2025,” adding that it puts Cyprus “right at the heart of the global space community.”

For a whole week, Nicosia will welcome hundreds of experts from over 45 countries, including Japan, India, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, and South Korea, all coming to share research and shape the future of space exploration.

Big players and big ideas

More than 90 organizations are taking part, from leading agencies and universities like NASA, ESA, Imperial College London, and the University of Michigan to national research centers from France, Germany, Italy, China, and Russia.

Over 330 scientific papers will be presented, covering everything from new discoveries in space medicine to ways satellites can help tackle climate change.

“This isn’t just another conference,” Danos said. “It’s a strategic meeting of the entire global space community, and it’s happening right here in Cyprus.”

Cyprus’s own space center steps into the spotlight

A key focus will be on C-SpaRC, Cyprus’s International Space Innovation Center, which was recently named one of only two COSPAR Centers of Excellence worldwide.

The Nicosia-based center, run by CSEO and supported by the Research and Innovation Foundation, will present new findings that link human health on Earth to space activity, discoveries being shared publicly for the first time.

The symposium will also deal with big-picture issues such as sustainability in space, planetary protection, and how space technology can be used to solve problems here on Earth.

Cypriots invited to join the fun

It’s not all closed-door science, though. On Thursday, November 6, CSEO will host a free Space Science Festival at the CSEO Outreach Centre in Town Hall Square, Nicosia, starting at 7 p.m.

Families and space fans will get the chance to meet real astronauts, see space exhibits, and chat with scientists working on missions that shape the future of humanity.

Danos said this conference is the result of a decade of hard work by CSEO and its partners to build Cyprus’s reputation in global space research.

“Hosting this event proves that Cyprus is no longer just watching from the sidelines, we’re part of the international conversation about space,” he said.

Highlights:

  • Nicosia hosts COSPAR’s 6th World Space Symposium, Nov. 3–7.
  • NASA, ESA, and top global scientists and astronauts attending.
  • 90+ organizations, 330 research papers, 45 countries represented.
  • Free “Space Science Festival” for the public on Nov. 6 at Town Hall Square.
