Cyprus swelters at 40°C as yellow warning continues

Heatwave continues as inland, coastal regions brace for high temperatures.

Newsroom

A seasonal low‑pressure system and a warm air mass are driving the heat.

After early patches of low cloud and fog lift, skies will turn mostly clear. Winds will blow southwest to northwest, locally southeast to southwest in the morning, starting light and building to moderate at 3–4 Beaufort. The southwest coast could see strong 5‑Beaufort gusts in the afternoon. Seas will be slight overall.

Forecast highs:

 - 40° C inland

 - 35° C on southeastern and eastern coasts

 - 34° C on the northern coast

 - 33° C on other coasts and in the mountains

Tonight
Skies stay mostly clear, though low cloud will increase over western and northern coasts. Patchy light fog may form toward dawn, chiefly in eastern and inland areas. Winds will ease to light, variable 3 Beaufort, and seas will calm to slight, remaining a little choppy in the west.

Overnight lows:

 - 24° C on most coasts

 - 22° C inland and on the western and northern coasts

 - 20° C in the higher mountains

Outlook
Mostly clear skies are expected Friday through Sunday. Temperatures will dip slightly Friday but remain just above average through the weekend.
