A female tourist is in critical condition following an accident at a light controlled pedestrian crossing outside a shopping mall in Paphos.

According to traffic police, a 33-year-old Lithuanian national was attempting to cross the road outside the Kings Avenue Mall on Wednesday around 6pm when a car driven by a local 38-year-old female struck the pedestrian.

Police told Knews the female driver was placed under arrest but did not wish to comment on media reports of the incident

The woman was rushed by an ambulance to the Emergency Room at Paphos General Hospital, where doctors described her condition as “serious” but said the woman was out of danger.

The driver maintains that the Lithuanian woman “jumped out” while she and two other pedestrians were waiting at the crossing for the light signal to cross, according to reports.
