Drone-linked fire erupts near U.S. Consulate in Dubai (video)

Emergency teams respond swiftly; officials confirm no injuries reported.

Dubai authorities have confirmed that a fire resulting from a drone-related incident near the United States Consulate in Dubai has been successfully contained.

In a statement, the Dubai Media Office said emergency teams responded immediately to the scene and brought the situation under control. Officials added that no injuries have been recorded.

The U.S. Consulate in Dubai is located more than an hour from the U.S. Embassy in the United Arab Emirates. The incident follows reports that drones were being tracked after striking the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh late last night.

Because the Dubai incident occurred in the middle of the night, it is believed that consulate staffing levels were likely minimal at the time, though the facility is routinely protected by U.S. Marine security personnel.

The developments come after the U.S. Embassy in the UAE ordered the departure of non-essential personnel, advising them they are authorized and encouraged to leave the country. The White House has stated that evacuation flights are underway to assist those personnel, although confirmations of arrivals have not yet been publicly reported.

Authorities in Dubai have not released further details about the origin of the drone involved in the incident.
