A powerful blast followed by a fire broke out early Tuesday morning at a restaurant in central Nicosia, prompting the evacuation of residents from the building but leaving no one injured.

The incident occurred at around 3:00 a.m. at a restaurant located at the intersection of Ezekia Papaioannou and Chytron streets. Emergency services responded quickly, and police secured the area as a precaution.

According to initial assessments, the explosion is believed to have been caused by a leak of liquefied petroleum gas, though investigations are still ongoing. Residents living in apartments above and around the premises were evacuated for safety reasons.

Authorities confirmed that the scene remains under guard while specialists examine the site. The Nicosia Criminal Investigation Department has taken over the case to determine the exact cause of the explosion and fire.
