A senior Education Ministry official is expected to be charged in connection with two separate sexual harassment complaints, one of which involves a girl who was a minor at the time of the alleged abuse.
Police completed their first investigation more than a year ago and recommended prosecution, but the case stalled after a second woman came forward with additional allegations of indecent assault. Both cases have now been reviewed, and the state’s Legal Service has instructed prosecutors to draw up an indictment.
The file has not yet been submitted, but court proceedings are expected to begin soon before the Nicosia District Court, according to local media reports.
The Education Ministry has been briefed on the case and is under pressure to take action. The official could be suspended while the judicial process moves forward, in order to safeguard the complainants’ rights.
