In a move seemingly straight out of the US TV series 'Sister Wives', Elon Musk has reportedly bought a massive $35 million estate in Austin, Texas, designed as a family hub for his 11 children and two of their mothers. According to The New York Times, Musk acquired a 14,400-square-foot Tuscan-style mansion, along with an adjacent six-bedroom property, so his children can grow up near one another and he can be a more involved father.
The estate is part of Musk's goal to create a close-knit environment for his children and their families, ensuring they’re all within easy reach from his own Austin residence. While the public records show a total spend of around $35 million, sources familiar with Musk’s plans revealed that the properties are about a ten-minute walk from his main Texas home.
Musk's children are the result of his relationships with three different women. His first wife, Canadian author Justine Wilson, shared six children with Musk, including triplets and twins, all conceived through in vitro fertilization. Musk and Canadian musician Grimes, his on-and-off partner from 2018 to 2021, have three children, two of whom were born through surrogates. Finally, Musk welcomed another set of twins in 2021 with Shivon Zilis, an executive at one of Musk's companies.
Reports indicate that Zilis and her children have already settled into the new Texas estate, with Wilson and her children expected to join them. Grimes and Musk have reportedly had tensions in their co-parenting arrangement, which intensified last year during a custody dispute.
Musk’s decision to create this extended family compound appears to reflect a desire for connection within his sprawling family—an unconventional but intentional approach by the tech mogul to bring his children and their mothers closer together.
