Unknown individuals are attempting to scam citizens through a fake Facebook profile posing as Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyras, the municipality has warned.
According to an official announcement, a fraudulent account has been created on Facebook that illegally uses the mayor’s name and photo in an effort to appear legitimate.
Through the fake profile, individuals are reportedly contacting residents while pretending to be the mayor and asking for money and/or personal information.
The municipality of Larnaca urged the public to remain vigilant, stressing that residents should not respond to such messages or share any personal or banking details under any circumstances.
It also called on users to report and block the suspicious account in order to limit its spread.
“The necessary actions are being taken to address the issue,” the municipality said, without providing further details.
