The Permanent Criminal Court of Famagusta on Thursday, September 4, unanimously found a man guilty on 29 counts of child sexual abuse, along with charges of producing and possessing child pornography and causing psychological harm to the victim.

The man, who was the partner of the child’s mother, repeatedly abused the minor over several years, beginning when the child was 13 and continuing until just before their 16th birthday.

The court has not yet handed down a sentence. That will be decided at a later date, once the defense presents arguments for a lighter punishment.

According to the Legal Service, which issued a statement through the Cyprus News Agency, the trial was held behind closed doors because of the sensitive nature of the case.

The prosecution was led on behalf of the Attorney General by state lawyer Irakleia Zisimu.
