A 37-year-old British father facing a charge over the death of his three-year-old son has asked the court to show leniency when determining his sentence.
The case concerns the death of the child at a hotel in Chloraka during the summer. The father is accused of causing his son's death through a reckless, negligent or dangerous act.
During Monday's proceedings, defence lawyer Alexandros Alexandrou asked the court for an adjournment until Tuesday so that additional documents could be submitted in support of the defence's written arguments.
The documents will accompany the defence's submission setting out the circumstances and other factors the court is being asked to consider when deciding the appropriate punishment.
The defence is seeking the minimum sentence allowed under the law, arguing that there are grounds for the court to exercise leniency towards the accused.
The trial is due to continue on Tuesday.
