A fierce battle against flames raged overnight in the vicinity between Kelokedara and Trachypedoula communities, reported Marios Zachariadis, President of the Kelokedara Community Council.
Zachariadis informed CNA that the fire ignited near the Cultural Centre of Kelokedara, spreading approximately 100 meters from the road network toward Trachypedoula.
Timely intervention by the Fire Service, complemented by local residents, helped contain the blaze. Three fire engines arrived promptly, establishing firebreaks. Several homes faced peril, and the fire consumed an agricultural warehouse along with tractors, implements, plantations, and vines.
While evacuation of Kelokedara was unnecessary, concerned relatives transported some residents to Pafos town for safety.
Zachariadis noted that a few elderly residents on the road's right side were evacuated by their families during the ordeal.
"It's heartbreaking to witness the destruction of century-old trees and property," Zachariadis lamented.
Meanwhile, Andreas Kettis, WHO Spokesperson, detailed on Platform X that a patrol from the Thera Service, conducting routine operational checks, detected the fire.
Kettis indicated, "The fire originated approximately 50 meters from a rural road in an area devoid of human activity."
