President Nikos Christodoulides has appointed Dr. Nicholas A. Ioannidis as Deputy Minister of Immigration and International Protection, utilizing his constitutional powers. This appointment marks a significant step in enhancing the country's management of migration.
President Christodoulides expressed gratitude to Interior Minister Constantinos Ioannou and his team for their substantial efforts in addressing migration issues. He conveyed confidence that they would collaborate effectively with Dr. Ioannidis, particularly during the initial phase of establishing the new Deputy Ministry.
The government will continue its targeted policies with the same rigor, now with the Deputy Ministry as the central entity for planning, coordinating, and supervising related government services. The improvements achieved through measures implemented over the past year are expected to be further bolstered by the new ministry under Dr. Ioannidis.
Dr. Nicholas A. Ioannidis holds a PhD in Public International Law from the University of Bristol and has an extensive background in international and European law, having taught at various academic institutions and served as a legal advisor to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He has represented Cyprus at the International Court of Justice and received several accolades for his contributions to international law.
