Tomorrow’s weather: Yellow warning as hell’s kitchen hits Cyprus, again

Bake by day, fog by night, but watch out for fire alerts before you roast yourself like a souvlaki.

Newsroom

Good evening, folks! Strap in, because Saturday’s forecast is basically the meteorological equivalent of a blast furnace set to ''extra crispy.'' The Meteorological Service has kindly slapped an orange warning on us, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., signaling extreme heat that’ll make you question your life choices. Expect inland temperatures to sizzle around a scorching 43 degrees Celsius. Yes, you read that right...43. The mountains will be slightly more forgiving, flirting with a balmy 34 degrees, which is still plenty to make your ice cream melt before it even hits your tongue.

Tonight, the skies will mostly chill out with clear conditions, but don’t be surprised if some sneaky fog or low clouds decide to gatecrash the party, especially along the southern and eastern coasts. Winds will be a polite 3 Beaufort, swaying gently between southwest and northeast, and the sea will be behaving itself...calm to slightly rough.

Come tomorrow, the sun will show zero mercy. The inland areas will roast like a Sunday roast in a blazing oven, while coastal zones will experience a sauna experience anywhere between 34 and 37 degrees. Winds will play musical chairs between southwest, northwest, northeast, and east, weak to moderate, but nothing strong enough to give you a proper breeze. The sea? Still calm, just like the weather’s way of saying, “I dare you to complain.”

Tomorrow night will see the heat dial back a notch, but some local fog or low clouds might sneak in to keep things interesting, especially near the south and east coasts. Winds will continue their mild dance, and the sea will keep calm to slightly rough.

Looking ahead to Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, expect the heatwave to linger like that unwelcome relative who just won’t leave. Temperatures will stay stubbornly high, well above seasonal averages, because why not?

But seriously though, note that the Department of Forestry has issued a red alert for forest fires on Saturday. With this kind of heat and dry conditions, a tiny spark can turn into a blazing inferno. Please be extra careful; no barbecues, no fireworks, and definitely no careless cigarette butts tossed around. Starting a fire is not only dangerous, it’s illegal and carries heavy penalties.

So, whether you’re sunbathing or just trying to survive your commute, drink lots of water, avoid the midday sun, and keep your eyes peeled for fire warnings. Stay cool, stay safe, and maybe invest in a portable fan...your future self will thank you.
