Right. Here we are again. Weather. The infinite, crushing march of atmospheric phenomena that we insist on categorizing so we don't have to confront the quiet void of existence.
Seasonal low pressure is currently affecting the area. It’s just sitting there. Unapologetic. Meanwhile, on Saturday, a disturbance moving in from the north will arrive to ensure nobody accidentally enjoys their weekend.
This morning starts with the usual dismal affair of local low cloud, bits of mist, and morning fog creeping around like a disgraced Victorian apothecary. Eventually, that clears up to leave things mostly sunny, though with occasional bouts of pointless local cloud.
After midday, however, clouds will start developing over the mountains and parts of the interior. This is expected to produce isolated showers and the odd thunderstorm. Just enough rain to ruin a barbecue, but not enough to solve any actual agricultural issues.
Here is how today's temperatures distribute themselves:
Inland plains: Hovering around 39°C. Absolutely stifling.
West and southwest coasts: Sitting at 32°C.
Remaining coastal areas: Clocking in at 34°C.
Higher Troodos Mountains: Reaching 30°C, where you can be both hot and rained on simultaneously.
Morning winds start light and variable at Force 3, barely enough air movement to blow out a candle. By afternoon, it shifts southwesterly to northwesterly at 3 to 4 Beaufort, picking up to a temporary Force 4 to 5 along windward coasts. The sea stays calm to slightly rough early on, becoming locally choppy later just to annoy anyone in a small boat.
Tonight brings increased local cloud cover across the island. As the night drags on, isolated showers may crop up in the north and east, just to keep everyone on their toes. Winds shift back to a gentle 3 to 4 Beaufort from the southwest and northwest, before dropping to a light Force 3. The sea goes back to being calm to slightly rough.
The weekend: A complete and total sisappointment
Saturday (tomorrow): The sky gives up entirely. Expect mainly cloudy weather, widespread rain, and local thunderstorms. And not just nice, theatrical thunderstorms. These ones come packed with hail, aggressive gusts of wind, and prolonged, intense weather phenomena. Temperatures will drop significantly, falling well below normal levels for the time of year. Brilliant.
Sunday: Starts off mainly clear, but don't get excited. Clouds will gradually build up again, bringing isolated showers or thunderstorms after midday, mostly over the mountains and south of the Troodos range. Temperatures rise slightly, but remain firmly below the seasonal average.
Monday: Occasional patches of cloud linger, with the chance of an isolated shower over the mountains after midday. Temperatures stay depressingly below par.
