Thursday hits a burning 40°C inland as the Met Office puts out a 3-hour Yellow Alert

A wild Saturday storm system is coming down from the north to smack the island and drop the temps.

Newsroom

You think it was hot yesterday? Thursday woke up and chose violence. Mother Nature looked at Cyprus today and said, "Oh, you want to go outside? I’m about to set the central plains on FIRE!" We are talking 40°C inland. 40 degrees! That ain’t just "warm," that’s "your shoes are melting to the asphalt" hot! The weather people had to put out an official Yellow Warning from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM just to tell adults, "Hey! It's hot! Don't go outside and bake yourself like a pie!" Even if you run away to the top of the Troodos mountains, it’s still 30°C up there! You can't hide! The heat will find you, track you down, and take your lunch money!

Here is how today's thermal smackdown breaks down across the island:

Inland plains: Reaching a sizzling 40°C under that relentless sun.

West and southwest coasts: Sitting at 32°C. That’s as cool as it gets, people!

Remaining coastlines: Floating around a sticky 34°C.

Higher Troodos Mountains: Hitting 30°C, with a chance of afternoon rain just to make it humid!

Morning winds start off light and sleepy at 3 Beaufort. But by the afternoon, the wind swings around from the southwest to northwest at 3 to 4 Beaufort, and if you’re down in the southwest, you’re gonna catch some strong Force 5 gusts. The sea is staying calm to slightly rough, trying its best to stay cool while everything else burns.

Tonight, the sun finally goes away, but don't get too happy! The air is staying thick. Expect low clouds to hang around the beaches, and by the early morning hours, patches of mist and fog are gonna creep into the inland and eastern areas. Winds start out at 3 to 4 Beaufort before calming down to a light 3 Beaufort flow.

Friday (tomorrow): More of the exact same heat. Mostly clear mornings, afternoon mountain clouds with a chance of pop-up showers, and temperatures staying way higher than they ought to be.

Saturday: Saturday is when the whole script gets flipped. A whole disturbance is coming down from the north like an angry landlord. We’re talking mainly cloudy skies, local rain, and full-on isolated thunderstorms, especially over the eastern half of the island. Temperatures are gonna drop big time, falling straight down below the seasonal average.

Sunday: Starts off mostly clear, but after midday, the clouds come back for round two, bringing more mountain and eastern showers. Temperatures creep up just a tiny bit, but it’s still gonna stay cooler than normal. Stay inside and keep your aircon cranked up.
