Tuesday brings 39°C heat with the zip-zop of afternoon mountain showers

Seasonal low pressure rolls in while the sun bops down on the central plains all day long.

Newsroom

With the heat of late August hanging around, you look outside your window and say, "Hey, hey, hey! What is going on out there?" The seasonal low pressure is sitting right on top of us, bringing out that big, bright sun to do the boop-boop-bee-bop all over the island.

Now, it’s mostly clear out there, but come afternoon, the clouds are gonna start gathering over the mountains like kids around a plate of warm chocolate chip cookies. And pow! You might just get an isolated shower popping up over the peaks.

Here is how the temperature is breakdown-grooving today:

Inland plains: Top-side of 39°C. You walk outside and, wham!, it hits you right in the face.

West and southwest coasts: Cool as a cucumber at 32°C.

Remaining coasts: Sitting right around 35°C.

Higher Troodos Mountains: A smooth 30°C (just keep an eye out for those pop-up rain drops).

Morning winds start out real soft; variable, light breezes at 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea is just floating along, calm to slightly rough.

Tonight, everything settles down. The sun goes to sleep, the skies stay mainly clear, and the wind goes flup, turning into a quiet, light 3 Beaufort breeze. The sea stays nice and calm.

Wednesday (tomorrow): More of the same bright, sunny action across the island with no real change in the numbers.

Thursday and Friday: Passing clouds over the mountains each afternoon, and you can't rule out a little drip-drop shower on Thursday or Friday. Highs will take a tiny, welcome little step down by Friday, but don't get too excited. We're still sitting just above those normal seasonal averages.
