Friday hits a scorching 41°C inland as the Met Office throws up a 3-hour Yellow Alert

A 3-hour heat warning is active from 13:00 to 16:00 for the central plains and the mountain peaks as a warm air mass rolls in.

Newsroom

You thought it was hot yesterday? Man, listen to me. Mother Nature is out here disrespecting everybody today. She looked at Cyprus and said, "Turn that dial up to 41, let's see who really wants to live here." So check it out. You wake up Friday, look out the window, and it's just pure, unbothered, disrespectful sunshine. A warm air mass came through, looked at the island, and decided today's the day everybody sweats through their shirt by noon. Central plains are touching 41°C, man. Forty-one! That ain't just heat, that's a personal insult.

The Met Office put out Yellow Warning from 13:00 to 16:00. They basically said, "Look, between 1 and 4 PM, if you don't have to be outside... don't be outside." Even the top of Troodos is sitting at 32°C getting hit with the warning. You know it's bad when you run to the mountains to escape the heat and the mountains are hot too!

Here is how the thermometer is breaking things down today:

Inland plains: Touching 41°C. It’s an oven out there, simple as that.
West coast: Sitting at 33°C. That's the best you're gonna get on the water today.
Remaining coasts: Clocking in at a heavy 36°C.
Higher Troodos Mountains: Reaching 32°C. Nowhere is safe.

Morning winds start real quiet with light breezes at Force 3 like everything is fine. Then afternoon hits, the wind swings southwesterly to northwesterly at Force 3 to 4, and the southwestern coast gets slapped with Force 5 gusts. Sea stays calm early on, then gets a bit choppy on the windward beaches later.

Tonight, it stays clear. Sky is completely open, no clouds, no relief, just the night trying to cool down a concrete island. Winds start westerly at 3 to 4 Beaufort before dropping down to a light Force 3 later on. Sea calms down on sheltered coasts, but stays a little choppy on the windward side.

Weekend outlook: A little relief and some early fog

Saturday: Sky stays clear, but temperatures take a tiny step down. Not a huge drop, but just enough so you don't instantly vaporize when you walk outside.

Sunday and Monday: Mostly clear mornings, but afternoon clouds build up over the mountains. Late nights and early mornings will bring low clouds and patches of light fog, mostly over the eastern side. Temperatures stay just slightly above average.
