The Friday morning calm in Ayia Napa was shattered by gunfire after unknown assailants opened fire on a 33-year-old man as he drove through the coastal town.
The attack took place at around 5:40 a.m. in the Kokkinos area, immediately triggering a major police investigation for attempted murder.
Officers sealed off the scene and began collecting evidence, while investigators are also examining security camera footage and seeking information about the attackers’ movements.
A burned-out vehicle was later discovered in the wider area. Police are investigating whether it was used by those behind the shooting and then set alight in an apparent attempt to destroy evidence.
The motive remains unclear, and authorities have not yet disclosed whether the victim was known to police or had previously received threats.
Meanwhile, in Limassol, a fire tore through a clothing store shortly after 3 a.m. in the Agios Nikolaos area.
