A fire that broke out yesterday afternoon in the industrial area of Agios Syla in Limassol has prompted aerial water drops since the first light of day.
Firefighting forces remained deployed around the perimeter throughout the night, tirelessly working to extinguish the flames. Today, strong forces remain on site due to the serious risk of rekindling caused by forecasted winds.
According to a Fire Service spokesperson, the fire has ravaged an area exceeding 6 square kilometers of wild vegetation and trees. "Possible damage to agricultural crops or properties will be assessed after the fire is fully extinguished," said the spokesperson.
Additionally, investigations are underway by the Limassol Police Department to determine the circumstances under which the fire started.
