Retired NASA astronaut Anna Lee Fisher helps Cyprus celebrate moon landing

Newsroom

Retired NASA astronaut Anna Lee Fisher, the first mother in space, will help Cyprus celebrate the 50th anniversary since man landed on the moon.

The emblematic Dr. Fisher will be the keynote speaker at an event hosted by the Cyprus Space Exploration Organisation on Thursday evening at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre. The event starts at 7pm.

Fisher, who was assigned to her flight two weeks before giving birth to her first daughter, became in 1984 the first mother in space. She has been involved with three major programs, the Space Shuttle, the International Space Station, and the Orion project.

The programme will include footage and behind-the-scenes stories from the Apollo 11 mission, while the highlight of the event will be the keynote delivered by Dr. Fisher who will give a talk about NASA and what it is like to be part of a NASA mission in space.

Admission is free at the event which is supported by the US Embassy in Nicosia.
