Police are investigating an apparent vehicle arson against a football club president, who is also said to be running as a candidate for parliament in upcoming elections.

According to local media, a car parked outside a residence in Limassol’s Ekali borough went up in flames Friday early morning, around 5am, with fire fighters rushing to the scene to extinguish the fire.

Additional reports said the vehicle belonged to Lysandros Lysandrou, who is the president of Aris Limassol FC in the country’s second division.

Lysandrou, a lawyer by profession, is also running for a parliament seat in upcoming elections in May on the ticket of socialist party EDEK.

Police are investigating the incident.
