The Department of Forests of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment has reminded the public that starting fires in state forests, or within two kilometres of their boundaries, is forbidden by law.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the department warned that hot summer conditions greatly increase the chances of fires breaking out and spreading quickly. Officials stressed that careless actions can place forests, homes, and human lives in danger.
Visitors to forested areas are being urged to act responsibly and remain alert. Anyone who notices smoke or flames should contact the Department of Forests at 1407 or call the Fire Service on 112 immediately.
