French high-speed trains disrupted by attack ahead of Olympics

Minister condemns 'criminal acts' on rail network before Olympics

Newsroom

Just hours before the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games, French rail company SNCF reported that its high-speed network was targeted by "malicious acts" that caused a "paralysis" of the system.

SNCF described the incident as a "massive attack" capable of paralyzing the TGV high-speed train network, which has been "severely disrupted."

Numerous routes have already been canceled, with SNCF warning that the situation could persist "at least throughout the weekend until necessary repairs are made."

France's Minister of Sports and the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Amélie Oudéa-Castera, labeled the incident "a form of coordinated sabotage."

Speaking to FMTV, Oudéa-Castera condemned the attacks "in the strongest terms," calling them "truly horrifying."

"To act against the Games is to act against France, against your own country," she said, according to BFMTV.

Transport Minister Patrice Vergriete also condemned the attacks, referring to them as "criminal acts."
