Friday forecast brings sunshine sizzle and a siren call to the sea

Yellow warning as Mother Nature keeps the heat coming.

Newsroom

Yup, it's Friday. The week blinked past like a sunbeam through a morning espresso. But before you start fantasizing about that post-5pm ocean sprint, let’s talk weather, because she’s got attitude today.

A sultry low-pressure system teamed up with a warm air mass is making itself very comfortable in the region, and it shows.

Today’s sky will be clear, bright, and basically screaming “go outside!” Winds are taking their time waking up, starting light and variable at 3 Beaufort, before stretching into a more purposeful southwesterly to northwesterly direction by afternoon. Expect a bit of a breeze at 3 to 4 Beaufort most places, and up to a flirtatious 5 along the southern coast. The sea will be calm to just slightly miffed.

Now for the heat:

Inland: 41°C (that's fry-an-egg-on-your-dashboard weather).

Southeastern & eastern coasts: 35°C (hot, but beach-bearable).

Western, northern & southwestern coasts: 33°C (still sizzling).

Mountains: 32°C will be cooler, but you’ll still sweat through your linen.

Tonight, skies remain mostly clear, perfect for stargazing or complaining about how you can’t sleep. Expect a whisper of fog or mist by dawn, mostly hugging the eastern and southern coasts. Winds will doze down to a gentle 3 Beaufort, and the sea stays chill (literally and figuratively). Temps will dip to 22°C inland and on the coasts, and a slightly crisper 20°C in the mountains.

Looking ahead:

Saturday & Sunday: Mostly sunny, with clouds popping up like nosy neighbors around the mountains come afternoon.

Monday: Still mostly clear, but those mountain clouds are ready to party. A chance of an isolated shower or even a cheeky thunderstorm can’t be ruled out.

Temperatures will keep their summer swagger through Sunday well above seasonal norms. But come Monday be ready for a reality check. Expect a modest cooldown as temps drift back toward what the climate thinks is normal for late June.

So yes, work diligently until 5pm. But after that? Do it. Tear off your metaphorical shackles (and maybe your literal shirt) and run wild into the waves.

You’ve earned it.
