If you've been driving in and out of Paphos recently, you've probably felt the frustration of the roadworks at Konia.
The good news? They're over sooner than expected.
The Konia road reopened to two-way traffic on Thursday afternoon, weeks ahead of schedule, giving drivers one less traffic headache to deal with during the busy summer period.
The project wasn't due to be completed until September, but the Municipality of Paphos says close coordination between engineers, municipal staff, and the contractor allowed the work to finish much earlier.
Mayor Angelos Onisiforou thanked residents for putting up with the disruption, acknowledging that the road closures had tested the patience of many commuters.
"We know the work caused inconvenience, and we sincerely thank the public for their patience and understanding," he said.
He added that the municipality's priority was to complete the project safely, without compromising quality, while getting traffic flowing again as quickly as possible.
Not quite finished yet
Although the road has reopened, motorists are being asked not to let their guard down just yet.
Deputy Mayor of Konia Kyriakos Kyriakou said the contractor will still be carrying out finishing works, meaning drivers should continue to exercise caution when traveling through the area.
He also praised everyone involved in the project for completing the work ahead of schedule and thanked residents for their patience throughout the construction period.
A welcome break for commuters
For many people living in Paphos, roadworks often mean longer journeys, unexpected detours, and extra time behind the wheel.
So while the project isn't completely finished, the reopening of the Konia road will come as welcome news for thousands of drivers who use the route every day.
After weeks of cones, barriers, and delays, traffic is finally moving in both directions again, and that's something many commuters will be happy to see.
