Police in Paphos are investigating a violent assault that left a 47-year-old man seriously injured after he tried to defend a woman from a group of scammers at the Timi bazaar on Sunday.
According to police, the man reported that shortly before noon he got into a confrontation with an unknown individual who attacked him, punching him repeatedly in the face. The incident took place after he stepped in to help a woman who had refused to pay men claiming to have replaced her car’s windshield wipers.
The 47-year-old was first taken to the Paphos General Hospital, where doctors found he had sustained a serious nasal fracture and a deep wound near his right eye. He was later transferred to Nicosia General Hospital, where he underwent surgery and remains hospitalized for further treatment.
According to police sources, the woman had been approached by men who replaced her worn wipers without permission, then demanded payment, claiming the old ones were “disposable” and would break if removed. When she refused to pay, the 47-year-old intervened, sparking the altercation that left him injured.
The attackers fled the scene and are currently being sought by police.
Authorities have noted that similar scams involving unauthorized wiper replacements have been reported in several parts of Paphos, warning the public to stay vigilant when approached by individuals offering unsolicited services in parking lots or marketplaces.
