Cyprus authorities on Wednesday moved to reassure the public that financial support for blind individuals has not been suspended, pushing back against what they described as misleading information circulating in recent days.
The Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare said the Blind Allowance continues to be paid without interruption, both to existing beneficiaries and to new applicants whose requests are currently under review.
The clarification came after reports and social media posts suggested the allowance had been stopped, triggering concern among recipients and their families. Officials stressed that these claims are false and urged the public to rely on official announcements for accurate information.
According to the ministry, the benefit remains fully in place as part of the state’s social support system, and applications are being processed as usual.
Authorities said the announcement was issued specifically to calm uncertainty and prevent further confusion, emphasizing that no policy change or suspension of payments has taken place.
The government reiterated its commitment to supporting vulnerable groups, noting that welfare programs continue to operate normally despite the recent misinformation.
