The Cyprus Organization of the Blind is urging the Ministry of Education, Sports, and Youth to address what it calls the government’s “provocative indifference” toward issues affecting blind students.
The organization criticized the transport provided for students traveling from the free area of Famagusta to the School for the Blind in Nicosia, calling the vehicle unsafe and unsuitable for adult passengers.
According to the group, blind students have raised concerns about the cramped space, poor suspension, and hazardous driving conditions. The organization also reported that one student was injured during transport and required medical attention.
Despite complaints submitted to both the school and the Ministry, no action has been taken to replace the vehicle with one accessible to adults with disabilities.
Frustrated by the lack of improvements, students have decided to suspend their participation in the program and refuse to travel on the current bus.
