Government employment surged by 5.2% in the first four months of 2024, reaching a total of 54,837 individuals, according to data released Monday by the Statistical Service. By April 2024, the number climbed further to 55,253, revealing a breakdown of personnel across various sectors.
In the Civil Service, permanent employees comprised the majority at 51.8%, totaling 12,238 individuals. Meanwhile, employees with contracts of indefinite duration numbered 4,274, those with contracts of definite duration stood at 1,334, and hourly paid workers amounted to 5,784, forming the smallest fraction at 5.6%.
Within the Educational Service, permanent employees dominated at 67.3%, totaling 11,910 individuals. Employees with contracts of indefinite duration accounted for 1,193, those with contracts of definite duration were 4,449, and hourly paid workers numbered 152, representing the smallest segment at 0.9%.
Security Forces saw 8,182 permanent employees, constituting 58.8% of the total workforce. Employees with contracts of indefinite duration numbered 4,688, those with contracts of definite duration were 300, and hourly paid workers amounted to 749, forming the smallest portion at 2.2%.
