Health Ministry officials are struggling to locate the source of Cyprus’ new coronavirus case on Thursday, which involved a patient who was being treated at a private hospital.
The patient had arrived in Cyprus from the UK in early May, but had tested negative for the virus upon repatriating. The man then sought treatment at a private hospital for another health matter, and was re-tested for coronavirus prior to his admission, with the test coming back positive despite the man being asymptomatic.
Kathimerini Cyprus reported on Friday that the Health Ministry’s epidemiological surveillance unit have so far been unable to pinpoint how the patient got infected with the virus, but is continuing to trace his contacts to check whether his infection stemmed from his family or social environment, or whether it was related to his travels.
