The Supreme Judicial Council adjourned today after hearing more arguments on Attorney General George Savvidis' request to suspend Auditor General Odysseas Michaelides for alleged misconduct.
The council session, which began with testimony from Freddy Yves Ndjemba, Director of INTOSAI, focused on the independence of audit institutions and ethical standards. Ndjemba's testimony supported Michaelides, highlighting systemic challenges in accessing information crucial for auditing.
During cross-examination, objections were raised over Michaelides' reference to a pending complaint with the Anti-Corruption Authority. Both sides debated the relevance of this complaint, with Attorney General Savvidis' counsel, Dinos Kallis, contesting its inclusion.
The session also saw negotiations over the exchange of documents, ultimately agreeing to submit most documents requested by the parties.
Council President Anthony Liatsos adjourned the meeting to review the objections, scheduling the continuation of proceedings for tomorrow morning.
