Heavy rain and gusty winds are currently affecting the Nicosia district, as the Department of Meteorology’s yellow warning remains in effect. Videos from the Engomi area show downpours lashing streets and trees bending in strong winds.
Forecasters say the wet weather is expected to continue across the island today. Morning showers are hitting western and northern areas first, gradually moving elsewhere, with isolated storms and even hail possible. Mountainous and inland regions could see the most intense weather, particularly after noon.
Winds are starting off light and variable in the morning but are expected to shift mainly southwest to northwest, blowing gently to moderately. The sea will remain mostly calm with a slight chop in some areas. Temperatures are expected to reach about 25 degrees Celsius on the coast and inland and around 15 degrees in higher mountain areas.
Tonight, skies will remain mostly cloudy with scattered showers and occasional storms, especially along the coast. Winds will continue mostly northwest to northeast at a gentle pace, and temperatures are expected to fall to around 13 degrees inland, 15 on the coast, and 7 in the higher mountains.
Authorities advise caution when traveling, particularly in mountainous areas where heavy rain and storms could make roads slippery.
