Heavy rain hits Limassol as weekend weather turns unstable

Storms, hail and rough seas expected before skies clear early next week.

Newsroom

Limassol was drenched Friday afternoon as heavy rain rolled across the district, with residents sharing videos of downpours flooding streets and reducing visibility on the roads.

The unstable weather is expected to continue into the evening. Forecasters say increasing cloud cover will bring isolated showers and the chance of thunderstorms, mainly in southern and later eastern areas. Hail is possible during stronger storms. Winds will stay northwesterly at 3 to 4 Beaufort, and the sea will be slightly rough.

By tonight, conditions remain unsettled, with isolated rain or storms expected along the east and north coasts and some inland communities. Winds will strengthen slightly in places, reaching up to 5 Beaufort. Seas will be rougher in the west and north. Temperatures will dip to 12°C inland, 14°C along the coast, and just 5°C in the higher mountains.

Saturday should bring mostly clear skies, though southern areas may see pockets of cloud and a stray shower in the afternoon. Winds will range between 3 and 4 Beaufort, and local seas will stay somewhat rough. Highs are forecast at 20°C inland and up to 22°C on the southern and eastern coasts.

Sunday will be mostly sunny with some afternoon cloud, while Monday may turn partly cloudy before clearer weather returns on Tuesday. Temperatures are expected to rise slightly on Sunday and then remain steady into the start of next week.
