Hump day showers brings a midweek refresh

Clouds, scattered rain, and a touch of mountain snow as cooler air moves in

Newsroom

For those unfamiliar, ''Hump Day'' just means it's Wednesday—we're halfway to the weekend! And just in time, the rain gods have remembered Cyprus exists. The low-pressure system is moving in, bringing scattered showers and maybe even a few dramatic thunderstorms. But don’t get too excited—it doesn’t look like we’ll be getting the downpour we desperately need.

Expect clouds, localised showers, and even a dusting of snow or sleet in the higher mountains. Winds will start off as a gentle west to northwest breeze (3-4 Beaufort) but will pick up steam, turning into a feisty north-northwesterly blow (4-5 Beaufort). The sea will start off a little choppy, graduate to choppy to rough, and then settle back to just choppy—basically, a rollercoaster for waves.

Temperatures today:
- Inland: 15°C
- Coast: 17°C
- Mountains: A chilly 7°C

Tonight: Expect a few leftover showers, especially in the west and north, plus a chance of snow or sleet in the mountains (and maybe even some foothills). Winds will shift north-northwesterly, staying strong (4-5 Beaufort), with some coastal areas feeling a solid 6 Beaufort gusts. The sea remains choppy, and temperatures will drop—so bundle up.

Lows tonight:
- Inland: 4°C
- Coast: 6°C
- Mountains: -1°C (Below freezing)
- Frost alert: Ice is expected in the mountains and some lowland areas.

Looking ahead:
- Thursday – Some morning showers and mountain snow, but clearing up later.
- Friday & Saturday – Mostly clear but cool, with a few passing clouds.

Temperatures will dip on Thursday before slightly recovering by the weekend. So, enjoy the sweater weather while it lasts!

Stay dry, stay warm, and happy Hump Day, Cyprus!
