Police in Paphos have arrested a 33-year-old man accused of siphoning off more than €76,000 in rental income from apartments he was supposed to manage on behalf of their owner.
The case began when a 50-year-old woman, who lives abroad and owns an apartment complex in Paphos, filed a complaint last Friday. She told police that between 2022 and this year, the man rented out eight of her apartments without her knowledge and never handed over the money.
According to investigators, the woman had signed a deal with the man’s company to collect rents on her behalf in exchange for up to 30% commission. Instead, she claims he pocketed the full amount, more than €76,790.
Police arrested the suspect on Sunday afternoon on suspicion of theft by proxy and money laundering. He is now being questioned as the Paphos Criminal Investigation Department digs deeper into the case.
Authorities say the investigation is ongoing.
