Police in Nicosia have taken a 50-year-old man into custody in connection with a suspected arson attack that occurred before dawn on November 25, 2025. Officers say the arrest was made after investigators obtained testimony linking him to the incident, leading to the issuance of a court warrant.
The fire began around 5:30 a.m. in a ground-floor apartment of a three-storey building and quickly spread upward. The blaze destroyed the entire ground level and caused structural damage to the first and second floors before firefighters brought it under control.
A 20-year-old man was found injured at the scene and rushed to Nicosia General Hospital, where he remains intubated. Doctors describe his condition as serious but stable.
Examiners determined that the fire had been deliberately set. The 50-year-old suspect is now being held as investigators from the Nicosia CID continue their inquiries.
