The owner of a building supplies store was killed in an accident on Tuesday afternoon, after he was crushed to death by his truck’s boom crane during a delivery.

According to the Cyprus News Agency, 60-year-old Vasos Costa from Limassol was delivering supplies to a construction site in rural Limassol using his company’s knuckle boom crane, which was mounted onto a truck bed.

Costa was trapped underneath the plunger of a knuckle boom crane, with reports saying he died at the scene

During the delivery, Costa was reportedly operating his truck crane to deliver roof tiles to a residence in Armenohori when he was trapped by the hydraulic crane that had moved backwards under circumstances still pending an investigation.

Police said they were notified of the incident around 5:40pm when officers rushed to the scene, finding Costa trapped underneath the plunger of a knuckle boom crane. CNA reported that the man was believed to have been dead when police arrived.

Fire fighters used the Jaws of Life to pull Costa out and he was rushed by an ambulance to the Emergency Room at Limassol General Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

A police officer was instructed to secure and monitor the area overnight until labour department officials could investigate the incident the following day.
