Kathimerini Greece Newsroom

A man drove a pickup truck onto Parliament’s forecourt in downtown Athens on Monday morning, stopping in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and threatening to detonate an explosive device.

According to preliminary reports, bomb disposal experts rushed to the scene and arrested the driver after they confirmed that this threat was a hoax.

The driver of the vehicle was a 58-year-old farmer who is said to be facing psychological problems.  He is being held at the General Police Directorate of Attica.

The body of the vehicle contained a gas cylinder and a can of gasoline.
